When you are in the military do you get to travel for free?
I know when they send you somewhere in the army they pay for it but when i want to go some where on my on time is it totally free or is it just a small discount?
It is on your own dime.

If you fly somewhere on your own time, then it is on your own dime.
Some airlines may offer a military discount. You would have to call and check. No guarantee.

Nope, and what discount ?
You buy an airline ticket like everyone else does.

no. but they do have deals on flights via ABH? its something like that. but its not good enough to join up for. besides you only have 30 days out of the year to fly. and most of the time its all split up too. so dont join for that reason

As CeciliaM said, there are many airlines that offer military discounts. There is also the possibility of flying space available on military (and military chartered) flights at significant discounts.

You can try to fly "standby" but you’re liable to spend half your leave screwing around in some friggin’ airport. Last time I tried that, I wound up stuck in O’Hare for thirty stinkin’ hours!
Other than "military standby", you pay full price like everyone else if your travel is not "at the request and convenience of the government"…

You can travel ‘space-A’ which is ‘space available’ on some military flights but not all of them. You stand a very real chance of being bumped or the aircraft breaking somewhere and being stuck until the aircraft is fixed. The key is to have enough money on you to cover a civilian airline ticket if necessary.

not really. while there is something called Space A it will NOT necessarily be an option for you. you are ultimately responsible for all your own leisure travel expenses and that means being BACK on time and if you get bumped from a Space A flight.. tough noogies. you better be back on time anyway.

Neither. You pay full boat like the rest of the population. There is the opportunity for military personnel to hop a military flight to their destination, this would be free. The chances are rare that an ordinary grunt would be lucky enough to catch one of these, but it’s worth it if you get lucky.

Maybe on a Space-A flight, if there is room and it’s going where you want to go.

No. But you can catch a MAC flight for 30.
