what is union student travel or is there something that gives students free travel in univeristy?

apparently my dad is telling me that if your parents are not working and your about to start university i have to go and pick up some union student form or something and it gives me free travel i know its not making sense lol but my auntie has it because she goes university and shes got 2 kids.
