Will you get more $ by itemizing in your tax refund for business travel mileage checks paid already?

I get monthly mileage checks from my job. It is not taxed. Should I itemize this year to get a bigger refund? I itemize day care for my daughter already. What's the best option?

That would be "double dipping" and is frowned upon. You could, however, review what your refund would look like if you just took the federal deductions and didn't receive the mileage checks.

Unless your company is including this on a W-2 or a 1099, you cannot itemize mileage.

You may be able to itemize expenses that are not reimbursed by your employer, such as day care, and some other business expenses (e.g. home office, professional dues)
