Cheap sell off of West Midlands Travel 1991

Stagecoach offered £85 million to buy West Midlands Travel in 1991. However as Phil said he didn’t want to sell WMT, so it was sold to the workers for just £60 million; some years later it was resold for a much higher full market value price to National Express who still own this very profitable bus company.

Stagecoach would have slaughtered TWM took away all the modern buses and left us with scrap buses from Scotland or somewhere else,like has happened eveywhere they have taken over.

Phil got a job with …
Phil got a job with West Midlands Travel not necessarily as a reward of some sort but so that the company could benefit from his political knowledge and experience, I think the role he got with WMT was in public relations.

probably not but …
probably not but the buses would be a lot cleaner, got on service 11 in coventry about 8 in the morning to go to the city centre, i got off the buss and the back of my trousers were filthy plus the floor was a mess the driver has thrown a used ticket roll on the floor
