looking for a cheap hol abroad for 2 adults and 2 children, i no their are some websites on here but what are good ones you have been on holiday with. and also name the ones to avoid please.

thanks for reading

I have just booked a holiday in Fuerteventura for the start of Feb through a company called Broadway, they seemed quite cheap.

Alternatively, may I reccommenda family villa in Costa Blanca (Spain) that is only £40.00 a night to stay in! You will find details on: www.reesonholidays.webs.com. The only thing is you will have to book your flights seperately, but flights to Alicante or Murcia airports in Spain are really cheap (i booked mine last year for £40 return each!)

You can also look on teletext.com, but I will warn you, the prices aren’t very accurate. I was looking at a hotel for Feb which was advertised at £360 each but when i phoned to book it turned out to be almost £500 each!

To be perfectly honest with you I have studied a lot of the less well known holiday company sites and by the time you add on extras such as taxi fares and all sorts of other charges, what looks cheap to start with is not so.

If you are stuck with school holidays then that is the time the companies all know that they can charge premium prices and there are never any bargains about now. There used to be when there were loads of tour operators but their are really only two left now and they realised people were waiting for prices to drop before booking and stopped reducing them.

I have found too that it often works out much more economical to buy an all inclusive package with kids. I have been on several and can say that the kids are entertained all day and evening, and you do not have to spend any money once you arrive. Self catering works out much more in the long run unless you want to do all your own cooking, sit on the balcony and sip wine from the supermarket in the evening.

What I do is check the internet for First Choice, Thomson, Thomas Cook, and then go on to the holiday watchdog to check reviews from people who have been there before. Often then you have to read between the lines on the reviews, complaints about the hotel can contain some stupid remarks about the carousel at the airport being broken.

I have never in 40 years of taking holidays of three or more a year ever been in a truly dirty hotel, nor have I found more than twice that the food was rubbish. But I have met people who complain about some very stupid things like the hotel was full of foreigners so we had no one to talk to.

You could try teletext holidays too, they often have less expensive accommodation but remember you may get what you pay for. Make certain they are ABTA bonded or pay with a credit card (which usually costs more) for your own protection or that cheap holiday could end up with no holiday and a hole in the bank account 00
