Where do you live? I live in NE Texas and it would make sense to drive to Galveston to take a cruise, but actually it is a lot cheaper to drive an extra 200 miles to Mobile, Alabama and take a cruise out of Mobile on Carnival. We saved $650 dollars....I don't know about you, but I can find a lot to do with the extra money. I know Flordia is cheaper than Galveston too, but I didn't want to drive any further than I had to. Check out www.carnival.com and check out the prices from Mobile or anywhere in Flordia. The three of us are taking a 4 day cruise out of Mobile and it only cost us 1,210.24 and that includes our gratuities. Carnival has an early saver and a price protection with that as well. Also, if you are traveling after June you will need to get your passport.....check out the passport card....it is a lot cheaper. We went with the card because it was a lot cheaper. http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html
Happy sailing.
References :
http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html

this year, cruises have gone down a lot in price...a 7 day cruise shouldnt be too expensive for an outside room (room with a window) but if your booking one now for a cruise in july or august, your rooms might be separated around the ship because of people who already booked. and if it is your extended family as well, 4 or 5 rooms might be hard to find in the same area.
References :
Well the first question is, What state are you in? And how many in your party. Pending on where you live, you could get discounts just by region, example: if you live in New Jersy, sometimes you can get a special rate on any cruiseline. Carnival is inexpensive, but sometimes Royal Caribbean and Princess will have these deals. It's a matter of doing some homework. Is anyone in your group in the military? Carnival gives military rates, even if the person has been discharged. Do you qualify for a group rate? I know this because i am a cruise specialist and certified for Carnival, RCC,Princess,Holland and Disney. While i operate other small businesses on the side.
References :
In our office, the least expesive cruises we've seen in a long time are on MSC cruise lines. They sail out of FL, and have had 7-10 day cruises for under $700! Almost all of their ships are brand new and are beautiful. They are an Italian company and had some start-up problems, learning how Americans like things when they cruise, but that's been straightened out. Here is their website:

http://www.msccruisesusa.com/

We are taking our entire family (4-generations) on the MSC Orchestra next month.
References :
My wife and I are both Travel Consultant Specialists and veteran cruisers.

I went on a norwegian cruise for about 800 a person to the Bahamas, Port Canaveral and then their private island in the bahamas as well.

I wouldnt go any other cruise line. Freestyle is the way to go & with extended family you cant beat it.

But since you want the window your going to be paying a little more than what I paid for so you may want to downgrade your accomodations. You wont barely be in your room with that large extended family of yours so its not worth all the extra money.
References :
One thing you should be aware of that summer time in Caribbean/Mexico/Bahamas is a HURRICANE season, other than that you will definitely enjoy the nice and warm weather at any port of call. Here are my suggestions:

1. If you want inexpensive deals, the best is to go for inside cabin that would definitely save you some money comparing with outside cabin with window. In my opinion, it's better to have 2-2ppl per inside cabin than 1-4ppl per outside cabin even if your prices are the same. It is much more convenience when it comes to shower time plus you have more storage room.

2. Unless you are picky about location of the room on the ship otherwise, when reserve your rooms, pick the "GUARANTEE" rooms and the chance is you may get a free up-grade.

3. If possible, do the last minute booking and you will be surprised the deals you get. However, check your air fare too since you have to know how much it costs when combined. SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

4. Do your own research, so you have more options other than rely 100% on your agent. Use yahoo travel or expedia websites to check cruise deals and contact your travel agents for the final quotes that way you want them to beat your deals but don' tell them how much yours are unless their prices are higher then you tell them to match. Keep in mind that the prices change very rapidly sometimes, so keep on checking.

5. If you have a larger party, group booking is even better and in this case your travel agents should be able to get you better deals.

Hope that helps, good luck and have a happy cruising.
References :
Vacationstogo.com, CruiseOne.com, Kayak.com, all of these sites will give you a listing of available cruises with as much as 80% off the regular rate. Some of them will even give you shipboard credits, or excursion credits. Also, if you do go straight to Carnival Cruise Line, if you have a large party, they will give you a discount, it used to be if you booked so many cabins then you got a cabin either free or deeply discounted. Not sure if they are still doing that. With the economy the way it is the deals are out there. Your other option is to get with a Cruise Travel Agent, and she/he can hunt down the deals for you. Good Luck!
