there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Check some Japanese travel agency in LA area such as HIS, JALPAK, Kintetsu Int'l travel consultants etc. for asking the goog price of direct flight. Air China has no direct flight from LAX to NRT so that you have to stop over Beijing, China for switching to the second flight and then I don't think it is a good idea. Safe or unsafe, it's only God knows. Comfortable or uncomfortable? Economy class is mostly same as any others. Flight attendants speak English anyway.
