From Paris, I’ll be travelling to Brussels, Bruges, and Amsterdam before flying back to the U.S. For this leg of the journey, I’m planning on purchasing a Benelux-France Rail Pass.

Does anyone have any suggestions/tips/advice/experience? I’ve compared my options so many times my eyes are starting to cross!

Would it be a bad decision to wait until I get to London to make a choice? Is there really that much of a difference in cost. As I compare right now online, it doesn’t seem to be that much more to book about a week in advance–BUT–this will be during the summer, so I’m just looking for advice. My travel dates are totally flexible, BTW.

Would you recommend getting my Eurostar ticket now (1 1/2 months in advance) or should I just wait until I’m in London (which will give me about a week to book)? I’m trying not to really commit to a "schedule," and am planning an itinerary that’s fairly flexible as far as travel dates.

I would go for the train, less hassle and more choice in travel times, and no hidden costs like that transport to and from the airports.

The trains and planes will be more filled by the summer, not less, so the price difference between booking early and buying just before you travel will be bigger.
Buying on the day you want to travel can be 10 times as expensive as buying well beforehand. And on top of that comes the risk that all trains and planes are fully booked, forcing you to use an inconvenient time or to pospone your trip by a few days.

For your travel Paris to Amsterdam, compare the price of the pass with tickets bought on the day or shortly before travel, as you will not use your pass a lot and it may be much cheaper to just buy the tickets.
If you buy your tickets for Paris-Amsterdam full price, you pay less than for a pass, and you will have to pay a reservation fee on top of the price of the pass too. And with a little searching you can find tickets for less than €100 even for the day of travel. And by breaking your journey in Brussels, your total travel costs will not go up that spectacular, but the choice in trains, and therefore your chances on cheaper tickets, will improve a lot.
Brussels-Amsterdam costs €37,80 full price or €24,60 for under 26 years of age, and takes almost 3 hours, the Thalys, the fast train takes just under 3 hours and costs €64 if you buy today for todays train, and would need a surcharge on your pass.

Only if you plan on traveling a lot more in France or the Benelux the price of the pass is worth it.

Funnily enough, I used to work in their Sydney office a few months ago.

The Global Work & Travel Co. actually does provide a free job placement service. There is no catch, except you will have to pay your own travel expenses: airfares, insurance and visa etc.

They are probably Australia’s top company if you’re looking at work and travelling in Canada, USA or the UK. They are one of the most used companies by employers overseas looking to employee people on working holiday programs.

In Australia, it’s actually illegal to charge for finding and organising jobs, so if you ever come across other companies charging a consultancy fee or placement fee, then you have to watch out. When I was there, we had an ex-staff turn competitor who would be charging a $600 consultancy fee for example. – then she was shut down and I don’t think any of her clients ended up getting a job, nor their $600 back.

The Global Work & Travel Co. actually has some great ties with some of Canada’s leading ski resorts and great hotels, and it is the employers who pay Global for providing the staff. Thats where they make their money if you are wondering how they provide a free service to job seekers.

They also have a partnership with a travel agency called Ten Travel who offer great value-for-money packages for those heading to Canada. They’re very flexible, safer and cheaper than going through the bigger, more known travel agencies.

Although I haven’t been on a working holiday program before, I wouldn’t recommend looking anywhere else if you’re looking for a secure, hassle free working holiday.
